OMANETWORK.ORG and Friends of OMA Campaign launched!
Energized by the final count on the recent override election (fewer than 2,000 votes short of passing), an enthused group of Opening Minds through the Arts (OMA) supporters gathered recently at the Ward 6 Midtown Council office to launch Friends of OMA and the OMA Network. OMA Foundation President Carolyn Kemmeries told the group that this was the natural next step in building on the support of more than 85,000 voters in support of the override, which would have expanded the OMA Program in Tucson schools.
"Our task now is to connect with those 85,000 voters and provide another means for them to support kids, education and arts in our schools," Kemmeries said. The Friends of OMA campaign seeks to raise $350,000 to keep the program at its current strength, and to raise $2.7 million over the next three years to reach more children with the program, fund research and develop a Tucson-base national arts integration center.
"We know the people of this town support student achievement and school improvement," said Kemmeries. "And we need their help now — we need people to go online and sign up for the OMA Network." Folks can sign up at OMANETWORK.ORG and will get weekly news about what is happening with the OMA Program in classrooms across the city.
